Netbook PC manufacturer Asustek has revealed intentions to become the world’s third largest laptop vendor by 2011. A new report has revealed that the number consumer complaints about laptop PCs have risen by 42 per cent during the past twelve months. The report from the Consumer Direct division of the UK Office of Fair Trading said that overall complaints dropped in 2009, but those relating to laptops and TVs increased significantly. With 12,395 complaints made about notebooks alone, not including desktop PCs, director of Consumer Direct, David Fisher, considered the possibility that the increase in the number of complaints could simply correlate to the significant jump in laptop sales in recent years. PC World recently reported that nearly one in three consumers has suffered significant problems with their notebook computer, citing Dell and Hewlett-Packard products as the most likely to encounter difficulties. By contract, Apple and Toshiba were named as the most reliable.

The Malaysian government is failing to meet its computer distribution target, according to the Association of the Computer and Multimedia Industry of Malaysia (PIKOM).
